Burn Permits

Permits are required for all outside burning. There are exceptions for cooking and other fires in an established rock-surrounded ring, three feet or less in diameter, where flames will be less than three feet high, during times when fire danger is not high.

Although 2025 is their last year, the "Warden's Report" offers Free Online Burning Permits. Established by Justin Basinger and some other enterprising fire fighters in 2012, the legacy of the site was essentially shaming the Maine Legislature into dropping the $7 fee for permits--you may remember. We are grateful for their efforts over the years that benefitted many.
